Welcoming October

There’s something about October that always feels like a turning point. The light softens, the mornings are cooler (even here in Florida, I notice the shift), and I find myself reaching for foods that are grounding and cozy. It’s a natural season for slowing down, gathering with loved ones, and savoring what’s fresh and in season.
In Mediterranean living, the rhythm of the table is guided by what nature is offering. This month that means pumpkins, squashes, hearty beans, and the last bursts of late-summer herbs. These simple, humble ingredients become the foundation for meals that nourish both body and soul.
Seasonal Inspiration
This month in my kitchen, you’ll see:
A Pumpkin Cheesecake Smoothie (made with kefir for that tangy “cream cheese” flavor).
A Pumpkin Cheesecake Swirl Bread that’s naturally gluten-free and sugar-free.
Cozy Butternut Squash Lasagna filled with ground turkey, ricotta, and spinach.
A big pot of Pasta Fagioli made with 15 bean soup mix — simple, hearty comfort food.
And maybe a roast chicken — because everyone should know how to roast a chicken, and once you do, it becomes a timeless kitchen staple.
Plus a little something sweet: a Halloween treat that’s spooky, fun, and sugar-free — perfect for the little ones. Stay tuned!
Seasons of Marriage
October is also special in my heart for another reason: it’s our wedding anniversary month. Mark and I are celebrating 39 years of marriage with a short cruise — a chance to pause, give thanks, and look back on all we’ve shared.
This month also marks my parents’ 61st anniversary and my sister-in-law’s 42nd anniversary — three marriages, all decades strong. Maybe there really is something magical about October. Or maybe it’s just a reminder that like the seasons, marriage has its changes: not always easy, but when rooted in faith, commitment, and love, it becomes a lifelong harvest of joy.
A Gentle Reminder
As we step into October, I’m holding onto Psalm 34:8: “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Food is such a beautiful reminder of God’s daily care. Cooking with whole, fresh ingredients is more than a recipe — it’s a way of practicing gratitude and sharing love.

Closing Thoughts
Whether you’re in Florida with me, where fall comes gently, or up north where the leaves are already turning, I hope this new month brings you fresh energy, cozy meals, and moments of joy.
What are you most looking forward to this October? I’d love to hear in the comments.
Until next time,💛
Amy
